IAREF General Questions

To conduct research and educate others in the medical community of the prevalence of chronic infections driving autoimmune disease. Thus allowing medical professionals to better serve their communities; creating lasting change for the better.

Yes. IAREF is a 501 (c)(3) organization. ID 37-1916617.

Both IFSMED and IAREF were founded by Dr. Alexander Shikhman. Institute for Specialized Medicine (IFSMED) is a private rheumatology practice in San Diego. IAREF was born from Dr. Shikhman’s desire to gather medical minds and share information. These are two separate institutions, all donations on this site go strictly to fund IAREF’s mission.

You can make a donation on the donate page on this site or you can mail in a check. NOTE: registration fees for online or in-person events, or purchasing educational materials are NOT tax-deductible. Only donations without the exchange of goods is deductible. 

Virtual Course Questions

No. At this time all courses are only offered in a virtual format.

The course will be accessed through Thinkific, an online learning platform. Upon registration, you will receive your login details. 

No. The course is designed to be asynchronous–you can access the content whenever you would like. If there are live Q&A sessions offered, the specific time will be noted in the course.

The content will be accessible for 30 days from the course start date. 

Upon registration, all of the course material will be available. There are a series of video lectures to watch. You will have the opportunity to ask questions within the course discussion board as well as during the live Q&As (if offered). 

A device that can access the internet and an internet connection. The course is mobile friendly–you can watch the material on your phone or tablet, but there is no app for the course. 

Because our courses are designed to educate those in the medical community, the content is very clinical and technical in nature, but anyone is welcome to register. 

This is course specific. Some courses offer CMEs, but many do not.

Due to the nature of the content being available for 30 days, refunds will only be allowed within 24 hours of registering for the course and provided it occurred prior to November 18, 2022.
